We get emails every day asking usually the same types of questions. We would love to answer everyone’s’ emails personally, but then I would have not time for shooting. So, here’s a list of the most frequently asked questions. If you are a Photographer I hope this helps and will guide you to your own style and voice in photography.

Q: Do you have a first year package?
A: While we don’t have a first year package, we do offer newborn sessions and various mini and limited sessions throughout the year that you can book for your growing baby. These sessions are great because they are stylized sessions that only take about 20 minutes – perfect for that tiny age.

Q: Do you offer photography lessons or workshops?
A: We do not offer lessons or workshops at this time but please let us know if you are interested through the contact form. If we get enough interest, we’ll be happy to offer them.

Q: Do I get my digital images with my session?
A: We do offer digital images from your session but they are not included in your session fee price (unless we are running a mini session special). You’ll pay your session fee which covers your session, editing, and online gallery. You’ll then purchase what you’d like from your online gallery. You can buy the entire session on a jump drive or you can purchase a few images in a digital download. We also have gorgeous canvases, metal prints, books, and more! The most important thing is to print those pictures and we do suggest printing through us to ensure quality of print and color.

Q: What do you photograph?
A: Newborns, Seniors, Weddings, Engagements. Mini Sessions and Limited Sessions can include kids, siblings, families, maternity, milestones, seniors, etc.

Q: What days do you photograph your sessions?

A: Weddings and Engagements: Fridays and Saturdays
Newborns: We will always work in your precious newborn. I prefer to photograph newborns Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday at 10AM.
Seniors: Consultations are on Wednesdays. Sessions are on Tuesdays and Thursdays with backup weather days on Fridays.
Mini Sessions: Often, these are on Thursdays, Fridays, or Saturdays.
Limited Sessions: Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays.

Q: What days do you not work?
A: Sundays and Mondays

Q: What if it’s raining for my session?
A: We will most likely reschedule if it’s raining but not if it’s cloudy. I set aside a few days a month for weather reschedule days.

Q: What are limited sessions?
A: Limited Sessions are designed to be fast, fun, and painless. ha. These are great for families (and dads) because they are only roughly 20 minutes and are not very posed. They are designed to capture the love and fun in families. But they are not exclusively for families – feel free to come for just one kiddo, siblings, maternity, anniversary, tweens, birthday, senior, anything! These are $300. $100 is the session fee and $200 is a print credit to go towards your order.

Q: What are mini sessions?
A: Mini sessions are typically designed for one kiddo at a time. Sometimes we allow a few kiddos but these are not designed for families or any of the other sessions. These are usually around $125 with a few digital images included but can change in price according to the session.

Q: How much should I expect to invest in my portraits?
A: Sessions fees are usually around $250 and people usually spend around $500 in orders. We encourage you to print those images and get them in your hands and on your walls.

Q: I’m not good at visualizing things on my walls. How do I know what size to print?
A: You are in luck! We have a GREAT way to show you exactly to scale what your images will look like on your walls. Here’s the link to our wall GENIE services

Q: How long does it take after I place my order to get my prints?
A: 2-3 weeks. If you do not get your order, we need to know. Many things have happened over the years. Everything from theft, dogs, moving, etc…

Q: What equipment do you use?
A: We shoot Canon. We use the 5D Mark III. We love this camera because it records your images to two cards for reassurance. We also use Einsteins for our strobe system. I LOVE great lighting and lenses! I’ll use several lenses in your session to get a variety of angles and depth of field.

Q: Are there ways to save money?

A: If you order in the first 10 days, you can use a 10% off discount code. You can also choose from our “collections” we’ve created to get the most bang for your buck!

Q: How far out do you book sessions?

A: Weddings are booked starting a year in advance. We book about 13 weddings for the year. Seniors start booking in the spring for their summer/fall sessions. We book about 20 seniors. Newborns should tentatively book during your pregnancy as soon as you can. We will never turn away a newborn though – we’ll always work you in.

Q: How do I book a session?
A: The first step is to fill out the contact form and we’ll get you started.

Q: How long will you keep my session on file?
A: We have back up systems but we guarantee your images for order for a year.

Q: What happens if my image gallery goes offline?
A: We know life happens! Just contact us at ian@starlaphotography.com and we will make sure you can get your prints and products.
